Celebrating Horses and Honouring Dixie

I always feel at home around horses.  They are a wonderful creature full of individual character.  So full of spirit and so often so deeply connected with their person.

I love capturing the special bond humans have with their beloved horses.

Unless you have known and loved a great horse in your life, you will never truly understand the bond, the connection, the unspoken trust that is shared with a person and their horse.

This was my funniest shoot to date.  Sadie didn’t have a helper for this shoot, so I ended up being a bit of a “jack of all trades”.  I was the attention getter to get ears forward, the nice treat lady - holding all the lollies, the spare horse handler and of course the photographer all rolled into one.  I must have been a right spectacle for the neighbours!

But it was truly the most fun I have had on a shoot.  These older horses were extremely special.  So laid back and gentle with me, especially since I had only met them once before at the pre-shoot consult. I was laying on the ground, or kneeling, all while having one horse with me most of the time, the faith they put in this new human doing weird stuff in their paddock was incredible and I felt 100% safe with them.

Sadie bought some beautiful wall art of these two horses.  Three treasured framed pieces that sit proudly in her bedroom, over her bed.

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you today, Thursday, 23 March 2023, beautiful Dixie has crossed the rainbow bridge and has returned “home”.  She has had a long battle with illness, and it was her time.  I would like to take a moment for the whole community of Albany and surrounds to wrap some love and light around Sadie while she grieves the loss of a loved companion, a trusted friend, and the most stunning creature with the most beautiful soul.  Feel our love Sadie. Your community grieves with you. We understand the pain you must be feeling at this time.  We hope your family and friends help you through the sad days and months ahead and we hope the treasured memories you have of Dixie eventually bring you smiles and laughter through your tears. Much love Sades. xoxo

“You were my favourite hello and my hardest goodbye.”
